Red plum, ripe black cherry and cedar
For centuries, the legendary Saint-Emilion wine region of Bordeaux has been hailed as the birthplace of some of the world’s most coveted wines. It is here that Chateau Fonplegade resides. Blessed with extraordinary terroir, this family owned, biodynamically farmed estate produces wines of both grace and elegance.
This blend is made from predominately Merlot. However, it includes just enough Cabernet Franc to imbue the wine with an elegant tannic structure. The Merlot gives it rounded red plum and black raspberry fruit flavours. The touch of Cabernet Franc adds a darker ripe black cherry with hints of olive tapenade and cedar. It has a sophisticated minerality, polished ripe tannins and a beautiful velvety texture.
Sourced from the estate’s oldest vines, the grapes are meticulously hand-farmed using organic and biodynamic practices to bring out the finest quality in each cluster. This wine from Chateau Fonplegade is a classic example of the wonderful wines this region produces.
Aged for 16-20 months in 60% new French oak barrels, 30% in 1-year-old French oak barrels and 10% in egg-shaped concrete vessels before blending.

Food and Wine Pairing
Merlot’s ripe red plum fruits makes it a very versatile wine in terms of food matching. Pairs brilliantly with all types of classic meat dishes. Steaks, a stuffed shoulder of roasted lamb or pan-fried duck breast are firm favourites. Also try with our pheasant or wild boar pates – the richness of which are perfectly balanced by the freshness of the wine.
