Blackcurrant, cedar with hints of truffle
Chateau Leoville Barton 2000 is according to Robert Parker, one the most majestic wines ever made at Leoville Barton displaying massive power and structure. This wine is predominately Cabernet Sauvignon and is the deepest of purple in colour. It has beautiful, intense blackcurrant and cassis notes, as well as the classic Saint-Julien cedarwood and smoky characteristics. These intermingle with hints of graphite, truffle, leather and tobacco. A harmonious, complex and well-structured wine with a lingering, persistent finish. A truly modern-day classic from Chateau Leoville Barton!
Awarded 18/20 by Jancis Robinson and 96/100 by Robert Parker

Food and Wine Pairing
Simply cooked roast and grilled meat, especially lamb are the perfect dishes to go with this wine. Enjoy with a slow roasted leg of lamb or with a grilled steak such as a classic French Chateaubriand.
About the Producer
At one time, Leoville Barton was part of a much larger estate. The vineyards also included those of Chateau Leoville Las Cases and Chateau Leoville Poyferre as well. In fact, it was the largest property in St. Julien
The Barton family, the current owners of the estate have been making wine in St Julian for generations and can trace their Bordeaux roots all the way back to 1722. That was the year that Thomas Barton left Ireland for Bordeaux and set himself as a negociant. In 1821, his fourth son Hugh Barton bought Chateau Langoa Barton and a portion of the Leoville estate which was renamed Leoville Barton. It was ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Classification. The current owner, Anthony Barton, inherited the two properties from his uncle in 1983. Unlike most Bordeaux estates, Chateau Leoville Barton has no chateau. The wines are made at their sister property, Chateau Langoa Barton.
The vineyard itself has gravel soils over clay and is planted with 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. After a manual harvest, fermentation takes place in large temperature-controlled wooden vats, and the wine is then aged in 60 percent new oak barrels.
Serving Guide: We recommend opening and decanting for at least two hours before serving to enjoy the full flavours of this wine. Alternatively pour smaller quantities into larger glasses and let it open up for 15 minutes before serving. Drinking nicely now with good potential to age and should continue to mature until 2032+ onwards.
