Description
Mont D’Or Napiot is made on the French side of the Jura Mountains from mid-August to mid-March when the cows are brought down the mountains from their higher summer pastures. Their milk is too fatty and not plentiful enough to make whole Comte wheels so instead it is used to make Mont D’Or
This is a rich soft creamy cheese with a washed rind that has woody, sweet and grassy undertones. When made, the cheese is kept in a wooden box made of spruce, which stops the cheese oozing out everywhere as it can be very runny when ripe.
You can either serve it with crusty bread spooning it straight out of the box or our favourite way to enjoy this legendary cheese is to bake it creating a ‘meal in itself’ fondue!
If you haven’t tried Mont D’Or it is an absolute cheese-lover’s must.
Cheese and Wine Pairing
This ‘so-runny-you-can-eat-it-with-a-spoon’ cheese goes well with our award winning Marsanne-Viognier from the Languedoc region or for a real treat pair it with our aromatic Gewurztraminer from Alsace. Deliciously good!
