Mont d’Or, Cow’s Milk, French Cheese, 400g

£ 19.45

Mont D’Or Napiot is made on the French side of the Jura Mountains from mid-August to mid-March when the cows are brought down the mountains from their higher summer pastures. Their milk is too fatty and not plentiful enough to make whole Comte wheels so instead it is used to make Mont D’Or

This is a rich soft creamy cheese with a washed rind that has woody, sweet and grassy undertones. When made, the cheese is kept in a wooden box made of spruce, which stops the cheese oozing out everywhere as it can be very runny when ripe.

You can either serve it with crusty bread spooning it straight out of the box or our favourite way to enjoy this legendary cheese is to bake it creating a ‘meal in itself’ fondue!

If you haven’t tried Mont D’Or it is an absolute cheese-lover’s must.

Cheese and Wine Pairing
This ‘so-runny-you-can-eat-it-with-a-spoon’ cheese goes well with our award winning Marsanne-Viognier from the Languedoc region or for a real treat pair it with our aromatic Gewurztraminer from Alsace. Deliciously good!

Description

Mont D’Or is a delicious seasonal French Cheese that comes from the Franche-Comté region in Eastern France. Made by small dairies in the Jura Mountains from mid-August to mid-March when the cows are brought down the mountains from their higher summer pastures. They are then fed on a diet of grass and hay, which contributes to this cheese’s distinct flavour. The milk produced is very rich and creamy. But not plentiful enough to make whole Comte wheels so instead these French cheese makers use it to make Mont D’Or.

This rich soft creamy cheese has a washed rind that has woody, sweet and grassy undertones. When made, the cheese is kept in a wooden box made of spruce, which stops the cheese oozing out everywhere as it can be very runny when ripe.

You can either serve it with warm crusty bread spooning it straight out of the box. Or our favourite way to enjoy this legendary cheese is to bake it creating a meal in itself as a delicious fondue!

If you haven’t tried Mont D’Or before, you are in for a real gourmet treat. This French cheese’s seasonal availability and distinct flavours makes it an absolute must for all cheese lovers.

Cheese and Wine Pairing
This ‘so-runny-you-can-eat-it-with-a-spoon’ cheese goes well with dry white wines. Such as our award winning Marsanne-Viognier from the Languedoc region or our fantastic Sauvignon Blanc Mount Brown from New Zealand. Deliciously good!
