Our Prosciutto Di San Daniele is a salt-cured, dry-aged Italian ham from the North East of Italy. Dating back to pre-Roman times when pork legs were dry-aged as a means of extending meat supply during the long winter months, the art of creating this delicious Prosciutto has been perfected over the centuries.
Just three ingredients are used to produce Prosciutto di San Daniele. High quality pork legs, sea salt and the particular microclimate found in San Daniele. So no additives or preservatives are used. The meat is first covered in salt and left to rest for a few weeks which as a result concentrates and intensifies the flavour of the pork. After the salting process is complete, the pork legs are washed and left to dry-age for a minimum of 13 months. It is this combination of salt, air and time that gives this Italian Prosciutto its distinctive dark red colour, creamy texture and delicate sweet taste.
Slice paper thin and savour how it literally melts in your mouth. Giving a wonderful array of complex sweet and salty flavours. Delicious on its own, this prosciutto also makes an excellent appetiser. It is the perfect addition to any cheese and charcuterie board. Or pair with fruit such as a juicy cantaloupe melon, sweet figs or pear for a classic Italian treat. Prosciutto is also lovely as a pizza topping or mixed in pasta or risotto dishes. Or why not try gently grilling it to create Prosciutto crisps that can be crumbled over salads or pasta dishes. Utterly delicious!
