Our Sliced Pastrami is a smoked and cured deli meat. Made from only the best brisket. This is a fatty, flavoursome cut of meat from the underside of a cow. The beef is cured for several days in a salty brine solution. After this, it is then partially dried and seasoned. Typically, with garlic, coriander, black pepper, paprika, cloves, allspice, and mustard seed. After this, it is then smoked and steamed. Treating the meat in this way turns a cheaper cut into something incredibly tasty. It literally melts in the mouth and has an amazing soft buttery texture.

The history of pastrami dates back to ancient times when salt was used as a means of preserving meat. However, nowadays it is frequently associated with both Romanian and Jewish cuisine.

Apparently, pastrami was first served in New York City in the late 1800s by a Lithuanian butcher called Sussman Volk. He was given the recipe by his Romanian friend in repayment of a favour. The story goes, he started serving pastrami on rye bread to his customers. It became so popular that Volk had to stop being a butcher and overnight the first New York Deli was born.

So, if you are hankering after some traditional Jewish fare or an authentic New York Deli experience at home, you should definitely try out our fantastic Sliced Pastrami. Pile it high on a bagel or rye bread, topped up with plenty of pickles and slather with mustard. It is absolutely delicious.
